I have always been convinced that school leaders need to be knowledgeable, engaged and motivated to make the most of sustainability in our schools. All the Green Teachers and curious pupils will not make it work without leaders' support. Drawing on my doctoral research, I set out in my book how school leaders can embed tried and tested eco-friendly practices within the school setting that can also drive overall school improvement, including that recognised by inspectors and school improvement partners. In the book I also give guidance around my ‘Five Cs of Sustainability’ – captaincy, curriculum, campus, community, and connections – to position sustainability as a natural vehicle for developing a type of fully integrated learning ecology and culture.
This book shares informed insights, and a range of practical approaches to help school leaders play their part in making their schools more environmentally friendly and better places to learn for all.
